The “Dr. G. Madaus Medicinal Plant Data Base” is directed to all interested visitors to the new Madaus webportal. It makes available scientifically relevant plant monographs published by Dr. Gerhard Madaus in the year 1938 for research purposes.

In the first phase we will publish monographs for those plants which have descriptions by G. Madaus and also positive monographs in the context of current drug legislation. The "Dr. G. Madaus Medicinal Plant Data Base" is of course a "living" data base. It is revised and kept up-to-date by an editorial network consisting of scientific experts. At the present time, the data bank comprises over 30 medicinal plant monographs.
The plants are made available to those who are interested. They are set out in a readily understood format and are sub-divided into various fields of knowledge. Numerous historical texts, still of genuine validity, are presented in their original form. The authors have striven to be faithful to the original; all the appropriately designated formulations are translations of the original quotations. However, no attempt has been made to reproduce those plant descriptions which are no longer in keeping with the present state of scientific knowledge.
Whenever more recent phytomedical research has produced significantly new results, the original texts drafted by Gerhard Madaus have been supplemented and expanded; all added material has been appropriately designated. Those texts for which the original sources are not stated consist of contributions by the appropriate scientific editors.
The current state of research on each of the medicinal plants is reproduced under the heading "current discussion". This is done to ensure that the current issue of the "Dr. G. Madaus Medicinal Plant Data Base" is up to date. However, no guarantees, either explicit or implicit, of the correctness and completeness of the data bank contents can be given. Furthermore, Madaus AG does not accept any liability for adverse consequences of any kind which may arise from the use of the information published here.
All the items in the "Dr. G. Madaus Medicinal Plant Data Base" are intended to convey nothing more than a general view of the history and usage of conventional medicinal plants, and can in no way replace advice from a doctor, pharmacist or naturopath. The data are not suitable for self-medication. The entire contents of the medicinal plant data bank, insofar as they are capable of reproduction or copying, are protected by copyright or by other industrial property rights.
